These web pages contain the War Diaries of my grandfather John Alan Watson who served with the Royal Garrison Artillery from 1914 - 1918. The diaries cover the periods April-October 1915 and April - December 1916 and include the Battles of Aubers Ridge and Loos and the Battle of the Somme. The Diaries were found by my father (Robert Alan Watson) in 1980 and he has in recent years carried out research into the background and has, with me, been back to France to revisit and re-photograph the sites mentioned in the diaries. He was assisted by the fact that JAW himself had been back to France in 1929 and taken photographs of  many of the battle sites.

This is my first attempt at a web site so in many respects it is rather primitive but I hope that it serves as a tribute to those who fought in the Great War.
